Alessandro Ienzi
Alessandro Ienzi, born in Palermo on 03/24/1987, is a human rights lawyer, actor, playwright and director and founder of Raizes, an organization that promotes human rights, equality and inclusion through the arts and theater.
After training in International Relations and International protection of human rights at the Società per l’Organizzazione Internazionale in Rome, he graduated as actor and director at the Teatro Biondo School of Theater in Palermo.
He specialized in acting at Stella Adler Los Angeles and in digital filmmaking at the School of Visual Art in New York.
He specialized in “Public Diplomacy” at United Nation Institute for Training and Research and in Protection of Human Rights with the Arts at the Global Human Rights Campus.
In 2020 he founded Raizes which advocates for rights, education and youth democratic participation by creating original theater shows,video exhibitions and photo exhibitions, based on real stories, and by creating and directing international courses open to the participation of underprivileged voices, whose voices are strenghten through art, theater and creativity.
Raizes is now active around the world.
In 2020, he won the International Human Rights Art Festival in New York, and in the last 5 years he has collaborated with the European Parliament, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Columbia University, the Council of Europe, the European Union Human Rights Forum, IOM EGYPT, UNODC.
He has written and directed plays on migration, women’s rights, freedom of thought, youth rights and climate. All the plays are staged with young artists from all over the world who are trained in their theater workshop.
His theater has been performed in Senegal, Egypt, Nepal, Malta, Spain, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Italy, and the United States.
In 2025 he created and directed “Together We Thrive” program, managed in Cairo, for one year in cooperation with IOM Egypt. The project involved over 100 under 30 artists from Egypt and other countries, espeically young refugees.
In 2025 he directed Barcelona Mundo, a cultural program for human rights, active in Barcelona until December 10, 2025 and I Ragazzi di Ballarò, a year long project whcih aimed at educate young sicilians to get a healthy lifestyle and to fight the use of drugs and drug trafficking.
He works as a communication specialist in Northern Nigeria, to help young people to make use of art to fight against terrorism and violence.
In 2025 he was awarded with the Mediterranean Award, 2025 by Junta de Andalusia and with the UNETCHAT Award 2025, by the same name university network, for his commitment in supporting peace and youth in the Med and in the world
Alessandro Ienzi, nato a Palermo il 24.03.1987 è Avvocato per i diritti umani, attore, drammaturgo e regista e fondatore di Raizes Teatro Italia, organizzazione che promuove i diritti umani, l’uguaglianza e l’inclusione attraverso le arti e il teatro.
Dopo essersi formato in Relazioni internazionali e protezione internazionale dei diritti umani alla SIOI di Roma, ha conseguito il diploma come attore e regista alla Scuola del Teatro Biondo di Palermo, diretta da Emma Dante. Si è specializzato in recitazione a Stella Adler Los Angeles e in Digital Filmmaking alla School of Visual Art di New York.
Si è specializzato in “Public Diplomacy” all’UNITAR e in Protezione dei Diritti Umani con le Arti al Global Campus of Human Rights.
Nel 2020 fonda Raizes con cui crea spettacoli originali tratti da storie vere di deprivazione dei diritti in tutto il mondo. Nel 2020 vince l’International Human Rights Art Festival di New York, e poi collabora con il Parlamento Europeo, l’Alto Commissario per i diritti umani delle Nazioni Unite, la Columbia University, il Consiglio d’Europa, il Forum dei Diritti Umani dell’Unione Europea.
Dal 2019 cura l’opening teatrale della Venice School for Human Rights Defenders organizzata dal Parlamento Europeo per i 14 Sakharov Fellows da tutto il mondo.
Ha scritto e diretto opere teatrali sulle migrazioni, sui diritti delle donne, sulla libertà di pensiero, sui diritti dei giovani e sul clima. Tutte le opere sono allestite con giovani artisti da tutto il mondo che si formano nel suo atelier di teatro.
Il suo teatro è stato presentato in Senegal, Egitto, Nepal, Malta, Spagna, Belgio, Francia, Olanda, Italia, Stati Uniti.
Nel 2024, in collaborazione con Avant-Garde Lawyers Paris, ha curato il procedimento di ricongiungimento della famiglia di Manizha Talash breakdancer afghana che ha preso parte ai Giochi Olimpici di Parigi, in collaborazione con il team che sta realizzando il documentario sulla sua storia, con la produzione di Todd Phillips.
Attualmente è direttore del programma Together We Thrive, creato con IOM Egypt e di Barcelona Mundo, programma culturale per i diritti umani, attivo a Barcellona fino al 10 dicembre 2025, e da marzo 2025 sarà direttore del Centro internazionale giovanile per le arti e i diritti umani con sede a Palermo.
Nel 2025 cura la performance teatrale per il Forum Mondiale sulla Giustizia con i Giovani a Madrid, a presenta OPEN! Revolution nella stagione estiva di Teatro di Roma e La Caja di Concreto con Lorent Saleh per il Teatro Biondo di Palermo, è Communication Specialist per UNODC per l’uso dell’arte per la promozione dei diritti dei minori nella regione Nord Est del paese, soggetta ad attacchi terroristici e instabilità. Attualmente è membro del board di organizzazione del Congresso Mondiale per la prevenzione al reclutamento dei bambini soldato.
Vincitore del Premio del Mediterraneo 2025, conferito dalla Giunta di Andalusia e del Premio UNETCHAT per l’impegno nella tutela dei diritti dei minori in territorio di guerra.
